Job summary

DS Smith Belper site is seeking a Machine Operative to join the production team in our corrugated packaging division. The role involves operating machinery across a 3‑shift pattern (6am‑2pm, 2pm‑10pm, 10pm‑6am) and contributing to safe, efficient output to meet customer needs.

You will be responsible for maintaining equipment, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring quality standards are achieved.

Overview

Machine Operative – starting salary £32,950, rising to £35,683 once trained. Hours: 3‑shift pattern (6am‑2pm, 2pm‑10pm, 10pm‑6am). We are looking for Machine Operatives to join our team at the Belper site and play a vital role in achieving the business goals of our Packaging division, which produces corrugated packaging solutions for a range of customers in the FMCG, Pharmaceutical, Electronics and Industrial sectors.

Responsibilities

Accountable for own and others health and safety whilst at work, operating in line with SSOW and company procedures to enable a safe working environment.
Raise any unsafe acts seen immediately with individual(s) concerned and immediate reporting of health and safety incidents to management.
Responsible for the operation of machinery to ensure efficiencies are maximised and downtime is minimised.
Achieve set productivity and performance targets ensuring consistent quality standards are met.
Ensure that maintenance and cleaning tasks are carried out correctly and in line with the planned maintenance schedule.
Support and assist with improvement initiatives.
