Job summary

Halliburton’s Landmark Software & Services team in Abingdon invites a Machine Learning Geoscientist to advance subsurface interpretation through cutting-edge AI/ML. Based at the Abingdon office, you will contribute to innovative modelling and publications while collaborating with geoscientists and developers.

You will design AI algorithms, validate models, and stay at the forefront of AI/ML trends in geoscience, shaping the future of subsurface exploration within a leading energy services

Qualifications

• Honors degree (2:1 or above) and postgraduate qualification in geoscience.
• Minimum of 4 years related work experience, or completion of a PhD.
• In-depth understanding of geoscience domains such as stratigraphy, sedimentology, or petroleum geology.
• Experience with subsurface datasets (wireline, seismic, biostratigraphy).
• Strong Python programming skills and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• Excellent communication and teamwork in a collaborative R&D environment.

Responsibilities

• Apply theories and practices to R&D of new and improved products, processes and procedures.
• Perform research and experimentation under technology leadership.
• Communicate with technical clients as needed.
• Design and implement AI/ML algorithms to automate geological interpretation.
• Develop AI/ML models to improve geological realism in subsurface models.
• Validate predictive models using blind test datasets and real-world scenarios.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to refine workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, applies theories, principles and practices to the research and development of new and improved products, processes and procedures. Performs research and experimentation at the direction of technology leadership. Communicates occasionally with technical clients.

Required Qualifications & Skills
