Job description

Role: Machine Learning Engineer

Duration: Initial 6-12 months

Clearance Required: eDV

A leading client within the UK defence sector is seeking experienced Machine Learning Engineers to join their AI and data science division. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the UK's national defence capabilities while working on advanced AI applications.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working on developing and deploying machine learning models for defence use cases, including autonomous systems, surveillance, predictive analytics, and decision-support platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement robust ML models suitable for real-time or mission-critical environments.
2. Process and analyze complex datasets such as geospatial, signals, or operational intelligence data.
3. Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and defence stakeholders to ensure system scalability and security.
4. Conduct testing, validation, and documentation of ML models according to standards.
5. Stay updated with emerging AI/ML techniques and evaluate their applicability to defence.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Strong background in machine learning, data science, or AI, with a related degree.
2. Proficiency in Python and libraries such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
3. Experience in building and deploying ML pipelines.
4. Understanding of algorithm performance in sensitive environments.
5. Experience in defence, aerospace, or security sectors is preferred.
6. Knowledge of computer vision, signal processing, or NLP.
7. Exposure to MLOps, edge computing, or synthetic data generation.
8. Knowledge of government or MOD procurement frameworks is advantageous.
