Job Description:

Designing, building, programming, and using a quantum computer poses numerous challenges. Modern AI methods show promise in tackling them, and such a project requires the application of modern machine learning techniques. At Quantinuum we are currently forming a new team to implement our AI strategy, successful applicants will have the opportunity to help us build this.

As a Machine learning Engineer in the AI for Quantum team, you will use state-of-the-art methods, in collaboration with quantum computing scientists, to solve hard problems arising in the full quantum computing stack, such as circuit compilation, searching for error-correcting codes, even identifying quantum advantage by providing the quantum computer as a backend to a tool-using AI system.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop software infrastructure to facilitate the application of ML methods to solve problems in the quantum computing stack.
  • Write code to enable the running and recording of large-scale experiments in improving the quantum computing stack, using existing ML libraries when appropriate.
  • Run experiments in improving the quantum computing stack.
Key Requirements:
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in using deep learning methods, such as large language models, reinforcement learning, as well as other machine learning methods, in a scientific context, and at large scale.
  • Familiarity with using high performance compute clusters and multi-GPU servers.
  • Familiarity with the commonly-used ML toolkits, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing concepts, or a related field such as quantum many-body physics.
  • Experience contributing to open-source software.
  • Strong background in software engineering, specifically experience in scientific software development.
