Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Food Industry)

About the Role

We are currently recruiting a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our fast-paced food manufacturing facility. As part of the engineering team, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving production line efficiency through effective fault finding, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond quickly to breakdowns on production machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults to reduce downtime.
  • Ensure machinery and systems are compliant with food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Accurately document all maintenance activities using CMMS systems.
  • Work closely with production and hygiene teams to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements:

  • Time-served engineer with a relevant qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, City & Guilds in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering).
  • Strong experience in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, ideally within the food or FMCG sector.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (fault finding, not necessarily programming).
  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexible approach to shift work, including weekends and call-outs if needed.

Desirable:

  • Experience with packaging machinery, conveyors, and automated production lines.
  • 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
