Job description

Morson Talent is recruiting on behalf of a major player in the Energy Sector for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their established site-based team in Somerset. This is a renewable contract position, inside IR35.

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary Joint Design Office team responsible for supporting review and acceptance of design activities for a classified plant. The team acts as an intelligent customer on behalf of the project, responding quickly to engineering queries and problems from site construction to ensure schedule adherence and scope delivery.

Overview

  • The Mechanical Engineer will support the review and acceptance of design changes raised by site contractors, justified by the designer.
  • Manage interfaces between construction contractors and designers.
  • Work with the safety case team and plant designers to ensure engineering requirements are correctly established and justified in the design.
  • Approve supplier designs to ensure safety case compliance while meeting project milestones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to and approve general queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemption requests with support from responsible designers or site experts.
  • Challenge design decisions to align with project strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate support from external organizations.
  • Contribute to resolving and closing open points.
  • Assess and address technical risks.
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision to meet internal customer needs.
  • Understand the design and operational aspects of EPR systems within nuclear and environmental safety contexts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with responsible designers and regulatory bodies.

Skills and Experience

  • Degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
  • Registered member of a professional institute or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment.
  • Experience with heavy mechanical power equipment design and maintenance.
  • Experience developing mechanical safety cases.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
