Job description

Morson Talent is recruiting on behalf of a major player in the Energy Sector for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their established site-based team in Somerset. This is a renewable contract position inside IR35.

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-national Joint Design Office team responsible for reviewing and accepting design activities of classified plant. This multidisciplinary team plays a crucial role in supporting the project by providing technical solutions and responses to engineering queries from site construction, thereby helping to meet project schedules and scope.

Overview

• The Mechanical Engineer will support the review and acceptance of design changes raised by site contractors, justified by the designer.
• Manage interfaces between construction contractors and designers.
• Work as part of a team with initiative to resolve technical issues during the project.
• Collaborate with the safety case team and plant designers to ensure engineering requirements are met and properly integrated into the design.
• Act as a professional engineer to approve supplier designs and ensure safety case compliance, supporting critical project milestones.

Knowledge and Experience

• Design and assembly of rotating equipment (pumps, motors), valves, tanks, heat exchangers, and associated systems.
• Piping design and erection experience.
• Welding expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to and approve queries, non-conformances, change requests, and exemptions.
• Challenge design decisions to align with project strategy.
• Ensure compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with external organizations and support closure of open points.
• Assess and address technical risks.
• Work independently to meet internal customer needs.
• Develop understanding of EPR systems within safety cases.
• Maintain strong relationships with designers and regulatory bodies.
