Job summary

MEPJOBS UK is seeking an experienced M&E Estimator to join our pre-construction team in the North West. You will prepare accurate, competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical packages across commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects, from initial enquiry through tender submission and handover.

The role suits someone with strong knowledge of building services, experience in office refurbishment, and the ability to work with design and project teams to identify value engineering

Qualifications

• Proven experience working as an M&E Estimator within construction or building services.
• Strong experience pricing commercial fit-out, office refurbishment or similar projects.
• Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive M&E estimates for commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects.
• Review tender drawings, specifications, schedules and scope of works.
• Carry out detailed measurements and quantity take-offs.
• Price mechanical and electrical packages including labour, materials, plant and subcontract elements.
• Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates and tender submissions.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.

Job Title: M&E Estimator

About The Company

An established and growing North West design, construction and fit-out business delivering high-quality workplace and commercial projects across the UK.

The business provides an integrated service covering workplace design, construction, refurbishment and fit-out, with dedicated mechanical and electrical capabilities. Projects include CAT A and CAT B office fit-outs, commercial refurbishments, industrial projects and wider workplace environments.

With a strong track record across office and commercial projects, the business is looking to strengthen its pre-construction team with an experienced M&E Estimator.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced M&E Estimator to join the pre-construction team, responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical packages across a range of commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects.

You will work closely with the wider estimating, design and project teams, taking projects from initial enquiry through to tender submission and handover.

This role would suit an M&E Estimator with experience within commercial fit-out, office refurbishment or building services, who is looking for a long-term opportunity with an established contractor.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and competitive M&E estimates for commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects.
• Review tender drawings, specifications, schedules and scope of works.
• Carry out detailed measurements and quantity take-offs.
• Price mechanical and electrical packages including labour, materials, plant and subcontract elements.
• Prepare detailed cost plans, estimates and tender submissions.
• Issue enquiries to M&E subcontractors and suppliers.
• Obtain, analyse and negotiate competitive quotations.
• Review subcontractor and supplier returns for accuracy, scope and compliance.
• Identify omissions, risks, exclusions and commercial opportunities within tender documentation.
• Work closely with the design team to identify alternative solutions and value engineering opportunities.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
• Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits and client meetings where required.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and pricing information.
• Assist with developing project budgets and ensuring commercial targets are achieved.
• Provide detailed handovers to the delivery team on successful projects.
• Maintain strong relationships with the supply chain and build market knowledge.
• Support the wider estimating and commercial team where required.

The Ideal Candidate

The Successful Candidate Will Ideally Have

• Proven experience working as an M&E Estimator within construction or building services.
• Strong experience pricing commercial fit-out, office refurbishment or similar projects.
• Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
• Experience pricing HVAC, heating, ventilation, plumbing and associated mechanical services.
• Understanding of electrical installation packages and associated costs.
• Ability to interpret M&E drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Strong experience with quantity take-offs and cost build-ups.
• Experience obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project risk.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical ability.
• Good knowledge of current market rates and supply-chain pricing.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
• Relevant M&E / construction qualification would be advantageous.
