The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long‑term careers across our Project.

EDF Energy's ambition is to construct and operate up to 2 new nuclear plants (pairs of EPRs) in the UK, the first of which is at Hinkley Point C (HPC), in Somerset.

The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been created to reinforce the HPC site‑based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary benefit of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.

Vacancy Overview

Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the post‑holder will be an Electrical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the electrical scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.

The role will be focused on the electrical discipline but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub‑suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back‑office).

Key Responsibilities
  • Responding to General Queries, Non‑Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co‑ordinating support from other external organisations.

  • Knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro‑active, report on and escalated relevant issues.
