Job description

Position: M&A Analyst (Buy-Side) – Business Brokerage / M&A Firm

Location: London (Mayfair)

Salary: c.£30–35k

Work Arrangement: Full-time, in-office

About the Role:

Our client, a business brokerage and M&A consultancy specialising in the sale of small to medium-sized businesses, is seeking a proactive Buy-Side Analyst to join their team. The firm supports small and mid-sized business owners across the UK with company sales and acquisitions. As part of an international network, but independently owned and operated, the business offers the best of both worlds: a strong global platform within a close-knit, family-run environment.

In this role, you will serve as the key point of contact for all buyer and investor activity. Supporting the deal team, you’ll research, identify, and contact potential buyers and investors. This is a permanent, office-based position in London, offering a clear path for professional development and direct collaboration with the Managing Director. We are looking for a commercially minded and analytically strong individual to support the M&A team with pipeline management, investor engagement, and transaction execution. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a career in corporate finance and private markets, with exposure to deals from origination through to completion. Ideal candidates will have experience in research and analysis, pipeline management, CRM tools, and be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline & Buyer Management: Maintain and update buyer pipelines for live and prospective mandates. Upload and track all buyer enquiries using the CRM and relevant marketing platforms. Screen, qualify, and prioritise leads. Develop strong relationships with key buyers, including strategic acquirers, private equity firms, venture capital funds, and family offices.
  • Investor Outreach: Work closely with advisors to build and refine investor lists tailored to each client. Coordinate with clients to finalise buyer shortlists and collect necessary data.
  • Transaction Support: Assist in outreach campaigns, including tailored messaging and CRM-driven workflows. Conduct strategic analysis to assess buyer fit and viability. Help prepare marketing materials such as buyer profiles and teaser documents.
  • Reporting: Provide weekly internal and client-facing reports on buyer engagement. Proactively identify and source new investors as needed.
  • Deal Origination: Support the buy-side origination team with lead generation and opportunity sourcing.
  • Research & Strategic Projects: Perform desk-based research for deal origination and sector-specific buyer mapping. Contribute to strategic, firm-wide initiatives and project-based work.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline (recent graduates welcome).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint), CRM systems (preferably HubSpot), and online research tools.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter with a resourceful, can-do attitude.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across internal teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Professional demeanour with strong client-facing communication skills.
  • An eagerness to learn and grow within a dynamic and expanding company.
  • Understanding of how small businesses operate.
  • Ability to work discreetly and professionally with confidential client information.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and managing competing deadlines.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on M&A experience and grow alongside a supportive, entrepreneurial team. You'll enjoy the benefits of working in a collaborative environment where your ideas and contributions are valued. With long-term career development on offer, this role is perfect for someone seeking real responsibility and progression in the world of corporate finance.
