Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Support worker within the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist (LCNS) team. You will be working with and supported by an established large LCNS team and admin co-ordinators. You will also work closely with a dedicated lung cancer MDT.
We are looking for a kind, dedicated team player with excellent communication skills and an interest in cancer to join our warm, friendly team. You would need to embrace change and enjoy service development.
The LCNS cover a large cancer pathway providing advice, social and emotional support and information to patients and their loved ones throughout their pathway. We meet patients from pre-diagnosis, diagnosis, treatment (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy) and palliative care. Your work will cover clinics, wards and telephone consultations Monday to Friday, supporting the LCNS and proactively managing the electronic Holistic Needs assessment (eHNA) nurse led clinics.
We provide a one-month supernumerary inductionalong with lots of continuous education once in post and there is an opportunityto attend a lung cancer conference each year with Lung Cancer Nursing UK (LCNUK). You will also be part of a wider network of LCNS throughout the East Midlands allowing for shared experiences and best practice.

Main duties of the jobThe Lung cancer nurse specialist (LCNS) team are made up of a mixture of band 6/7 and admin support.
We are part of a wider MDT working closely with consultants, nurses and admin form different directorates but that make up the whole lung cancer team. The LCNS and the support worker will cover the whole pathway working wherever the patient needs us. Lung cancer patient's journey can be fluid, and the patients can move back and forth between specialities often due to additional co morbidities, therefore communication and documentation need to be excellent as the LCNS and the support worker are the only people seeing them through the whole patient journey.
The core part of your job is offering and completing Holistic Needs Assessments. You will meet patients in clinic to offer a phone call clinic. It will be your role to go through their concerns in a telephone clinic and complete referrals. This is a space to give patient the opportunity to share their concerns away from hospital.
Along with this it will be your role to support the LCNS to help navigate patients through the National Optimal Lung Cancer Pathway with practical help such maintaining/ ordering Nicotine Replacement Therapy and venepuncture which is required in clinics and wards.
