Job summary

Bishop Loveday Church of England Primary School is seeking lunchtime supervisors to oversee play areas, encourage games, and ensure playground rules are followed. Duties include supervising outside and inside spaces and reporting issues to leadership.

The post requires First Aid training (training provided every three years), attendance at termly OPAL development, and adherence to the school's Play Policy. The role is scheduled from 12.15pm to 1.15pm daily, with overtime paid for training

Qualifications

• First Aid training required (training provided by the school every three years).
• Experience with school playgrounds or play supervision is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Two lunchtime supervisors will be in the hall on dry days; others outside.
• Help children with lunches, supervise activities, and ensure safety and order in the play areas.
• On wet days, patrol classrooms to keep children in their assigned spaces.
• Encourage children to participate in activities and ensure a calm, enjoyable atmosphere.

Introduction

The duties of the lunchtimesupervisors are to be outside patrolling and managing the given play zone,actively encouraging children to play games, ensuring the playground rules arebeing followed, preventing disputes or fights, adopting the Play Policy and todeal with issues which arise or contact the Head of School or Deputy Head ifthis is not possible. The lunchtime supervisors need to be present from 12.15pmto 1.15pm each day.

In line with our Health &Safety audit, this job now has a requirement to be First Aid trained as amember of our support staff. First Aid training will be provided by the schoolon a three yearly basis, costs incurred by the school, and also for your CarInsurance to include Business Insurance. All lunchtime supervisors will berequired to attend termly professional development on OPAL (our OutdoorLearning and Play scheme) as well as meetings/training sessions, of half hourduration, for which overtime will be paid.

The performance of all the dutiesand responsibilities shown below will be under the reasonable direction of theHead of School, who will be mindful of her duty to ensure that the employeehasa reasonable workload and sufficient support to carry out the duties of thepost. All sanctions given by lunchtime supervisors will be in accordance withthe school’s Behaviour Policy. All lunchtime supervisors should have a copy ofour OPAL Play Policy and Play Charter.

JobPurpose

The duties of the lunchtimesupervisors outside include patrolling the given area, actively encouragingchildren to play games, ensuring the playground rules are being followed,preventing disputes or fights, dealing with issues which arise or contactingthe Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher if this is not possible.

The duties of the lunchtimesupervisors inside include ensuring children are eating in a safe space,ensuring children use good manners whilst eating and clear up their spacebefore leaving the hall.

All lunchtime supervisors are tohelp in the first instance if a child has been in an accident or is hurt. Iffurther first aid is needed the lunchtime supervisor will contact a designatedfirst aider.

All lunchtime supervisors are ableto reward good behaviour with stickers.

The lunchtime supervisors willensure all children go in to the hall to eat their packed lunch promptly whenthe bell rings for second sitting, and that all children line up promptly whenthe final bell for the end of lunchtime rings.

Areasof Responsibility

• v On dry days:
• Ø Two lunchtime supervisors will be in the hall, and the otherlunchtime supervisors will be in separate places outside.
• Ø In the hall the duties include helping children with theirlunches, stacking chairs, cleaning any spillages.
• v On wet days:
• Ø the lunchtime supervisors will frequently patrol each of the givenclassrooms ensuring that all children are in their own classrooms, unless theyhave a teacher’s permission to be elsewhere.
• Ø the lunchtime supervisors will allow children to take part in anyof the activities listed for this purpose and displayed in the classroom.

Thelunchtime supervisors will encourage a quiet but enjoyable atmosphere and willencourage children to be actively engaged in an activity either alone or withothers.

Ifworking in Early Years, lunchtime supervisors will supervisor the children,either outside or inside, and will line the children up, bring them back intothe classroom and read them for a story, prior to the teaching staff returningto the classroom.
