Pinewood Infant School is seeking a caring and skilled Learning Support Assistant to support children with Special Needs in education and oversee lunchtime activities. The position is part-time, with 30 hours in class and 2.5 hours for lunchtime supervision. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, patient, and hold an NVQ2 qualification or equivalent. Pinewood Infant School is a vibrant, supportive and inclusive, one form entry school based in a modern, well-resourced building, with spacious teaching areas and school grounds which are surrounded by pine trees from which the school takes its name. We have two resource provisions: one for SCLN and one for Autism.

We are looking for a skilled, experienced and caring Learning Support Assistant who will also undertake a half hour Lunchtime Supervisor Assistant role. As part of our dedicated and hardworking team, you will be working on a 1:1 basis with children within our ASC provision, ensuring they are supported in their education within the classroom and through specific targeted interventions as well as working the other children in the class. This is an excellent opportunity to extend knowledge and skills of language development.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Have experience of working with children, SEND experience is desirable.
  • Be trained to NVQ2 standard (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
  • Demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Implement learning activities to enable the child(ren) to have access to the planned curriculum.
  • Help the child(ren) to develop social skills and appropriate interactions with peers.
  • Have a willingness to learn new skill.
  • Have the ability to support the development of the child(ren)'s self-help skills and independence.
  • Use a variety of positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with and be accountable to the class teacher, who will give guidance on the nature and extent of the support and supervision.
  • Plan and review regularly with the class teacher.
  • If appropriate meet regularly with the SENDCo and contribute to Individual Education Plans.
  • Be flexible, being prepared to support with other children if appropriate.
  • Undertake break time and lunch supervision of children.
  • We are looking for someone who:

  • Is motivated to support and help the learning of all children especially with those who can demonstrate communication through behaviour.
  • Can be professionally discrete and able to respect confidentiality.
  • Has the ability to think on their feet and be highly effective at using their initiative.
