Teaching Assistant – SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Bristol

Job Type: Temporary (Full-Time)

Salary: £80-£110 per day DOE

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Term-Time Only)

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Five Education is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant (SEMH Learning Support Assistant) to work with students facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges and trauma-related needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for an empathetic and patient individual who wants to provide both academic and emotional support to vulnerable students.

You will play a key role in supporting students’ learning, managing behavior, and fostering a safe and positive school environment. Working closely with teachers, you will help tailor lessons to meet individual needs and support students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to encourage their academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  2. Assist with personalized learning plans and classroom activities.
  3. Support students in managing emotions and building confidence.
  4. Help create a structured, safe, and engaging learning environment.
  5. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to ensure the best outcomes for students.
What We’re Looking For:
  1. Experience working with SEMH or special educational needs (desirable but not essential).
  2. A compassionate and resilient attitude with a strong desire to support young people.
  3. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices is beneficial.
  4. Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  5. Right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available).
  6. Relevant references and DBS checks (or willingness to obtain one).
  7. Availability for full-time, term-time work (Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM).
