What you’ll do as a Long-Haul Deployment Project Manager
- Spearhead Long-Haul Deployment Projects: Take ownership of the complete project lifecycle for large-scale, long-duration fiber optic and optical line system deployments, from initial planning to final commissioning.
- Master Planning & Execution: Develop and meticulously execute comprehensive project plans, including detailed schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies tailored for long-haul fiber deployments.
- Fiber Optic Testing Guru: Apply your in-depth knowledge of fiber optic testing methodologies (e.g., OTDR, ILM, CD, PMD) to ensure the highest standards of network performance and reliability during deployment.
- Optical Line System Integration Expert: Oversee the seamless integration and configuration of various optical line system components (e.g., amplifiers, ROADMs, transponders) according to project specifications.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead and inspire diverse cross-functional teams, including fiber optic technicians, engineers, logistics specialists, and external contractors, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment across multiple sites.
- Stakeholder Whisperer: Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, including executive leadership, clients, and vendors, providing regular updates on project progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Budget & Resource Management: Effectively manage project budgets, track expenditures, and optimize resource allocation to ensure projects are delivered within financial constraints.
- Logistical Maestro: Oversee the complex logistics involved in long-haul deployments, including fiber cable routing, equipment delivery, installation schedules, and coordination across geographically dispersed locations.
- Quality Champion: Implement and enforce rigorous quality assurance processes to guarantee the integrity and performance of the deployed fiber optic and optical line systems.
- Risk Navigator: Proactively identify, assess, and manage potential risks and issues that could impact project timelines or quality, developing and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including test plans, as-built records, and lessons learned, contributing to our knowledge base and best practices.
- Vendor Partnership: Manage relationships with external vendors providing equipment, services, or support for fiber optic testing and optical line system deployment.
What you’ll need
- To be 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Optical, Telecommunications preferred) or a related technical field. PMP or equivalent project management certification is a significant plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience managing complex, long-haul deployment projects with a strong focus on fiber optic networks and optical line systems.
- Deep and demonstrable expertise in various fiber optic testing methodologies, equipment, and standards.
- Hands-on experience with the deployment, configuration, and integration of diverse optical line system technologies and vendors.
- Thorough understanding of fiber optic cable installation practices, splicing techniques, and industry best practices.
- Exceptional leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively lead remote teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities to navigate complex deployment challenges.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, Asana)
- Proven ability to manage budgets and financial aspects of large-scale projects.
- Willingness to travel as required to support deployment activities across various locations.
Additional Experience a plus:
- Experience with specific optical networking technologies (e.g., DWDM, OTN).
- Familiarity with GIS systems and fiber optic network mapping.
- Experience with Ciena or Infinera deployment.
Salary Range $85,000-95,000
