We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Logistics Planner to join our Client's operations team. Sitting at the very heart of their logistics function, this role is crucial in ensuring the smooth coordination between transport planning, the warehouse, and sales administration.
You'll be responsible not only for planning and optimising daily transport activities, but also for maintaining full legal compliance with DVSA and O-Licence requirements. You'll act as the key operational link between multiple departments to ensure goods are ordered, picked, and dispatched efficiently and on time.
This is a fast-paced role, requiring a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to change.
Plan and allocate vehicles and drivers to meet customer delivery schedules.
Optimise routes for cost efficiency, fuel usage, and time.
Coordinate with the warehouse, customer service, and sales teams to align delivery and picking schedules.
Monitor daily operations and react quickly to delays, route changes, or customer issues.
Ensure full compliance with DVSA and O-Licence undertakings.
Monitor and manage drivers' working hours in line with EU Drivers' Hours Regulations and the Working Time Directive.
Oversee regular vehicle checks, defect reporting, and maintenance scheduling (including MOTs).
Maintain up-to-date and accurate compliance records (tachograph data, CPC training, inspections).
Support preparations for audits and inspections in collaboration with the Transport Manager.
Allocate and brief drivers daily, ensuring clarity on delivery details and compliance expectations.
Act as the first point of contact for drivers regarding issues or operational changes.
Maintain driver files including licences, training records, and qualifications.
Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, insured, and fully compliant with tax and legal obligations.
Generate regular reports on transport performance, including:
On-time delivery
Fuel usage
Compliance metrics
Maintain comprehensive and audit-ready transport documentation.
Support investigations following incidents, accidents, or compliance breaches.
Transport Manager CPC qualification (or willingness to work towards it).
Previous experience in a transport planning or logistics coordination role.
Strong knowledge of DVSA regulations, O-Licence requirements, and driver hours legislation.
Essential:
Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel).
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt quickly to operational challenges.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
