Job description

Yard and Logistics Manager

Location: East Lothian (Fully Onsite)

The Yard and Logistics Manager is responsible for all aspects of the dispatch yard. This includes all material movements, staging and storage of both finished goods and work in progress within the yards as well as the inbound and outbound transport and logistics of materials. They will manage and lead the yard team, ensuring productivity, safety, and adherence to processes. The role also includes reporting on departmental metrics to drive team efficiency and ensure on-time, in-full (OTD) deliveries. In addition, the Yard and Logistics Manager will work closely with the Manufacturing Manager to ensure alignment on operational priorities and yard requirements.

Responsibilities:
  1. Team Management: Supervise and motivate yard employees, ensure safe task execution, and develop training plans.
  2. Planning: Optimise yard activities and storage capacity.
  3. Collaboration: Attend production meetings, lead daily updates, and report on metrics.
  4. Safety: Maintain high safety standards, conduct inspections, and ensure PPE use.
  5. Quality: Report defects, perform corrective works, and ensure quality checks.
  6. Improvement: Implement lean methods and support yard expansion.
Skills, Knowledge and Attributes:
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of logistics, material handling, kitting and bundling, and Bills of Material management.
  • Ability to create forward capacity plans and identify any constraints.
  • Continuous Improvement techniques for enhanced efficiency and quality of service.
  • Computer/IT and spreadsheet working skills.
  • Process management and improvement, including KPIs and measures of success.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Able to work as part of a team, offering support to others.
