Working Hours
As an Operations Degree Apprentice, you will work various shifts to gain exposure to our 24/7 operation, including early, late, night shifts, and some weekends. You will experience shift patterns starting from around 6am, finishing as late as 10pm, or during the night from 10pm to 6am, with notice given for schedules.
About the Apprenticeship
Over three years, you will learn about:
- Logistics & Supply Chain Operations: How Royal Mail’s parcel network functions, tracking and optimizing parcel flows, understanding delivery routes, fleet management, and vehicle scheduling.
- Operational Management: Managing teams in depots, hubs, and delivery offices, KPIs, shift planning, resource allocation, and contingency planning.
- Commercial & Financial Acumen: Cost analysis, budgeting, profitability, and performance data analysis for efficiency.
- Customer Service & Client Relationships: Handling B2B and B2C interactions, complaints, tracking issues, and service improvements.
- Leadership & People Management: Managing teams, developing communication and leadership skills, understanding employment law, health & safety, HR policies.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Learning about new technologies like route optimization, vehicle telematics, and automated sorting systems.
- Sustainability & Environmental Practices: Reducing carbon footprint, alternative fuels, route efficiency, sustainable packaging.
