About the role
ScottishPower deploys c. 350k meters per annum to meet its mandatory obligation for Smart Metering. It meets this mandate through the deployment of metering assets using a 3rd Party Meter Asset Provider (MAP) and a Meter Operator Contract network to meet this commitment. The Smart Programme is responsible for a plan of over £300m of funded investment in smart meter infrastructure over the next 5 years.
The main purpose of this role within this new business is to operate a highly efficient logistics network operation for the provision of metering assets, associated devices, ancillary equipment and supply chain management services to all contracted meter operators UK wide. Including the reverse logistics of all assets including the retrieval of faulty assets from the field, triage services, warranty management and disposal of assets.
What you 'll be doing
- Delivery of the operational planning, management and control of all Logistics operations within the meter supply chain across the diverse GB geography
- Operate the full order cycle of meters from manufacture to distribution to the various 3rd Party meter installers within the UK, as part of the Smart Metering Deployment.
- Operate the reverse logistics cycle from recording of point of meter failure through to transporting the asset through the logistics network and recovering the value of the asset from the warranty process. The role will also implement a triage and disposal process for all meters returned to the 3rd Party MAP.
- Liaise with the Technical team to determine test schedules for new technology releases and sampling of faulty meters to determine common trends within the metering infrastructure.
- Continuous review quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency of the logistics process through weekly and monthly reporting
- Oversee stock audits and controls to ensure that the company policies, health, safety and welfare procedures in relation to the general upkeep of all store premises are being implemented and adopted.
- Liaise closely with the 3rd Party MAP in placing orders to ensure they are progressed timeously and to the production schedules provided and agreed standards
- Continuously review the logistics process and ensure that there is a consistent approach to security and safety of the assets within the logistics chain Implement initiatives to deliver best in class customer service in the provision of Logistics services
- Manage business change initiatives to improve all Logistics activities to increase customer service experience across entire customer base
- Operate an efficient logistics process to consistently minimise the inventory level of metering assets within the logistics channels ensuring that asset rental is fully maximised and asset recovery costs are minimised
What you'll bring
- Experience in a business, numerate or technical discipline with a proven track record of contract management
- Industry experience in an operational management or professional role(s) ideally with experience in a logistics or industrial stock control or factory environment, with an understanding of the meter refurbishment and stock management process
- Utilities industry management experience with clear understanding of the equipment and materials associated with materials management and logistics
- Sound understanding of the commercial environment and ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and to take risk balanced decisions
- Proven ability to generate continuous improvement in daily operations
- Proven track record of managing a geographically dispersed distribution network
- Strong focus on delivering first class customer service
- Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to obtain buy in from all levels of the organisation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience of managing large volumes of stocks/goods and ensuring an efficient supply chain operation, including the management, ordering and distribution of materials and equipment would be an advantage
- Ability to identify critical operational performance requirements that add value to delivery of quality services to customers
- Ability to assess technical problems, develop, communicate and implement cost effective safe technical solutions
Minimum Criteria
