Logistics Engineer Tier 1 Automotive West Midlands

The Role

SF Recruitment are working with a leading 1st tier automotive business in the West midlands to recruit a logistics engineer.

This is a newly created, hands-on role designed to drive process improvements, streamline material flow & ensure the smooth implementation of engineering changes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process all Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to ensure updates are implemented accurately and efficiently. Setting up new supply lines where needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Production, and Procurement to ensure seamless part introduction and change implementation.
  • Analyse current logistics and material flow processes to identify and implement cost-effective improvements and process optimisations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for logistics engineering processes and procedures.
  • Support new product introduction by ensuring logistics readiness and alignment across both manufacturing areas.
  • Monitor and resolve part shortages, delivery issues, or flow disruptions affecting production schedules.
  • Provide technical support for layout planning, material handling methods, and space utilisation within manufacturing areas.
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. Kaizen, Lean projects) focused on inventory optimisation, reduced lead times, and cost savings.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in a logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing engineering role, ideally within the automotive or a high-volume production environment.
  • Strong understanding of Engineering Change Management, material flow, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities across large, fast-paced operations.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools and Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of WMS/ERP systems is a strong advantage.
