Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK is seeking a proactive Logistics Coordinator for the Syston area. You will oversee the seamless transport of aggregates, coordinating drivers, suppliers, and customers to meet deadlines while controlling costs.

Role demands strong problem-solving, communication, and adaptability within a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with dispatch, project managers and site supervisors to ensure compliant, efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of SAP, Syncrotess systems and standard office packages.
  • Good communication and cognitive skills with the ability to negotiate at all levels.
  • Experience working within a large company environment and achieving targets is ideally required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate deliveries to meet customer and project deadlines, ensuring on-time, cost-effective transportation.
  • Adjust quickly to changing schedules, priorities and weather or equipment issues.
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, suppliers and clients to resolve issues and coordinate changes.
  • Troubleshoot logistical problems and optimise routes, loads and schedules in real time.
  • Plan proactively to minimise disruption and maximise operational efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, legal and environmental standards.

Salary up to £30,000 + depending on experience.

Role Overview

The Aggregates Logistics Coordinator is at the heart of a fast‑paced, dynamic workplace. The purpose of the role is to ensure the seamless, efficient, and cost‑effective transportation of aggregates (e.g., sand, gravel, crushed stone) to meet customer demands and project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Agility and Adaptability – Adjust quickly to changing schedules, priorities, and unexpected challenges such as weather disruptions or equipment issues.
  • Strong Multitasking Skills – Manage multiple deliveries, orders, and communication channels simultaneously without compromising accuracy.
  • Quick Decision‑Making – Make informed decisions under pressure to ensure seamless operations and avoid delays.
  • Effective Communication – Communicate clearly and concisely with drivers, suppliers, and clients to resolve issues and coordinate last‑minute changes.
  • Problem‑Solving Under Pressure – Troubleshoot logistical problems (e.g., route changes, vehicle breakdowns, or material shortages) rapidly and efficiently.
  • Proactive Planning – Anticipate potential issues and implement contingency plans to minimise disruption.
  • Resilience and Composure – Stay calm and focused in high‑pressure situations while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Team Collaboration – Work seamlessly with dispatch, drivers, project managers, and site supervisors to ensure alignment and effective execution.
  • Technological Savvy – Proficient in using logistics software, GPS systems, and other tools to track and optimise deliveries in real time.
  • Customer‑Focused Mindset – Ensure client needs are met promptly, maintaining high service standards despite dynamic conditions.

  • Efficient Delivery Coordination – Ensure materials are delivered on time and in the right quantities to meet customer or project requirements.
  • Dynamic Problem‑Solving – Address and resolve logistical issues such as delays, route changes, or equipment breakdowns in real time.
  • Maximise Operational Efficiency – Optimise loads, routes, and schedules to minimise costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Real‑Time Communication – Act as the central point of contact between drivers, suppliers, and clients to manage last‑minute changes.
  • Maintain Compliance – Ensure all transport operations adhere to safety, legal, and environmental standards.
  • Support Business Goals – Contribute to customer satisfaction, project success, and operational profitability by maintaining a reliable supply chain.
Education & Qualifications
