- This procedure describes the basic functions, reporting relationships, authority, and responsibilities of the Logistics Clerk Distribution at S&P USA.

- The person occupying the position of Logistics Clerk Distribution is responsible for verifying and keeping records on outgoing shipments which include addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or materials, and arranging for the transportation of products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Examine shipping bills to obtain the description of freight and classify according to the rate book description.
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of ladings, and shipping orders to route materials.
- Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, and discrepancies for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.
- Contact the carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for the shipping and delivery of materials.
- Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damage, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
- Answers mail or telephone inquiries from shippers regarding rates, routing, packing procedures, and interline transportation procedures.
- Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator and price list.
- Examines bill of lading and files claims with transportation company for overcharges.
- Keeps records of freight movements.
- Secure rates, transit times, and shipper’s responsibilities from international freight forwarder or ocean transportation intermediary on hire.
- Prepare accurate final commercial invoice, packing list and provide to forwarder.
- Confer and correspond with freight forwarder on international L/Cs before final bank approval.
- Follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or forklift.
- Loads materials into vehicles.
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
- Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment.
- Delivers complete orders to shipping area and checks quantity against order.
- Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Keeps records of heat treated wood, and coordinates inspector audits.
- Observe all company policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work additional hours to support the organization’s needs.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Distribution Supervisor and/or the Plant Manager.
Educational Requirements:- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and at least eight (8) years of related experience.
- Proficiency in the Windows environment and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Forklift certification required; or to be obtained within the initial 90 days of employment.
- Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to read and interpret English documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mental Requirements:- Ability to communicate in English (read, write and speak) is required as the overwhelming majority of customers, vendors, co-workers, and suppliers communicate in this language.
- Reasoning ability is required to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Mathematical abilities to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
