Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Logistics Assistant with multiple positions available across locations within the Greater Manchester Area of the North West Ambulance Service.

Role Overview

The postholder will be responsible for providing logistics support in an operational sector of Greater Manchester, ensuring vehicles, equipment, and consumables are available for frontline staff. This role supports the safe and effective deployment of ambulance resources by maintaining a well-supported operational environment. The role involves working closely with operational managers, the fleet department, and clinical teams to uphold high standards of preparedness and service resilience.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Routine vehicle readiness checks: ensuring vehicles are clean, fueled, roadworthy, and equipped.
  2. Restocking consumables, coordinating equipment servicing, and supporting vehicle maintenance and cleaning.
  3. Driving ambulances and rapid response vehicles, including electric types.
  4. Supporting inventory management: ordering, unpacking, and discrepancy resolution.
  5. Maintaining medical equipment: cleaning, functional checks, in-date status, and storage.
  6. Supporting calibration, servicing, and liaising with suppliers for repairs.
  7. Ensuring a clean, safe, and organized operational area.
Requirements
  • Full driving license suitable for ambulance driving.
  • Flexibility, attention to detail, and a proactive approach.
  • Effective communication skills with clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks.
Additional Information

The role reports to the relevant Group Manager and involves working across multiple locations. The post contributes to the delivery of emergency and non-emergency NHS services, including patient transport and NHS 111 services.
