Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Logistics Assistant with multiple positions available across locations within the Cheshire & Mersey Area of the North West Ambulance Service.

The postholder will be responsible for providing logistics support in an operational sector within Cheshire or Merseyside, ensuring that vehicles, equipment, and consumables are available for frontline staff. This role is designed to assist and maintain the safe and effective deployment of ambulance resources by supporting the operational environment. The role involves working closely with operational managers, the fleet department, and clinical teams to maintain high standards of preparedness and support service resilience across the designated sector/area.

The role requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards. The logistics assistant must hold a full driving licence suitable for driving an ambulance and may need to work across various locations within the sector/area. Physical work, task coordination, and proactive problem-solving are essential in this fast-paced emergency healthcare environment.

Effective communication with clinical and non-clinical staff, collaboration with other logistics assistants, and supporting operational efficiency are key responsibilities. The post holder will report to the relevant Group Manager and work closely with the local leadership team. Duties include routine vehicle readiness checks, ensuring vehicles are clean, fuelled, roadworthy, and properly equipped.

Additional responsibilities include restocking consumables, coordinating equipment servicing, supporting vehicle movements for maintenance or deep cleaning, and driving ambulances and rapid response vehicles, including electric types. You will assist with ordering and unpacking store deliveries, inventory checks, and resolving discrepancies.

Ensuring all medical equipment is clean, functional, in-date, and properly stored is vital. Support for calibration, servicing, and repair involves liaising with internal departments and external suppliers. Faulty or expired equipment must be identified and replaced promptly.

The operational area should be maintained as a clean, safe, and organized environment, promoting professionalism. The service vehicle used for transporting stock, equipment, and staff across the Trust will also be managed by the postholder.

The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24/7 emergency services, including life-saving care, patient transportation, non-emergency patient transfer, and support during major incidents. We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West, providing non-emergency medical help around the clock.
