Job description

A Logistics Desk Planner is responsible for the scheduling, dispatch, and completion of Logistics Management Centre (LMC/LOCC) activities, including tankering and hire equipment for both clean and waste wholesale operations. The LMC team aims to deliver the highest levels of customer service, applying trust, ease, and care to ensure a first-class customer experience for both internal and external customers.

The role follows a 12-hour shift pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off, 3 nights, 7 days off, 3 days on, 4 nights, and 13 days off, starting on a Friday.

What you will be doing as a Logistics Desk Planner

Your role will be part of the Logistics Management Centre, the in-house centre of excellence for complex logistics functions. You will work within a cross-functional team that balances operational demand and strategic thinking, influencing decisions at various levels, including senior management. This is an excellent opportunity for career progression, especially as the LMC expands.

  • Facilitating work progress and completion within required timeframes, ensuring service is consistent, compliant, cost-effective, and maximizes productivity in line with Thames and external contractual requirements.
  • Ensuring all work sent to contractors complies with traffic management legislation to avoid penalties and reduce permit costs.
  • Delivering high levels of customer service to enhance the customer experience, aligned with the Trust, Easy, Care model.
  • Supporting operational events and pollution incidents as needed.
  • Allocating equipment and services to wholesale operations to enable proactive work and remedial interventions.
  • Assessing and investigating issues to ensure correct equipment is issued timely and to specifications.

Location: Kemble Court, Reading. Some travel within the Thames Valley may be required.

What you should bring to the role
  • Understanding of Work Management Processes and Systems (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Company IT systems and Office software.
  • Experience working under pressure in fast-paced environments with demanding targets.
  • Passion for providing excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of work management processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong IT skills in Microsoft Office and ideally SAP.
