Job description
Overview

Whittington Health NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to appoint a 10 session Urology Consultant with an interest in stones. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education and training. The post-holder will take part in elective in-patient and day-case surgery, outpatient clinics, and educational and administrative activities including weekly MDT meetings and regular governance and audit meetings.

Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of interview or be within 6 months of the expected date of CCT.

Job responsibilities
  • Work commitments: One operating list at UCLH on alternate weeks (afternoon and evening).
  • Weekly all-day stones clinic at UCLH.
  • General urology commitment at both UCLH and WH (alternate weeks).
  • Take part in the WH on-call rota.
  • Contribute to clinical governance and regularly attend relevant Trust Committees to support the governance structure.
  • Take on appropriate management responsibilities and lead developments aligned with interests and experience of the appointee.
  • Active involvement in teaching and training.
  • Contribute to management of the clinical service and service development.
  • Contribute to research and development of the department.
  • Ensure adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in patient care to contact you when necessary.
  • Ensure equitable working conditions with colleagues.
  • Support on-call requirements and related arrangements; note that elective activity may be cancelled if on call extends through the night.
  • Participate in educating postgraduate doctors and nurses in all specialties; eligible to apply for honorary roles at UCL Medical School with participation in undergraduate teaching and related activities.
  • Engage in undergraduate teaching and assessment and pursue pathways for medical education and scholarship.
Person Specification

Professional Qualifications

  • GMC Registration
  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register in relevant specialty, or within 6 months of expected date of CCT at time of interview

Desirable

  • Higher Academic degree

Clinical Experience

  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Proven ability to carry out high quality research leading to publication
  • Involvement in clinical audit and understanding of its aims

Clinical Skills

  • Comprehensive training in Urological surgery

Clinical Governance, Management & IT

  • Ability to undertake and manage clinical audits and supervise junior staff
  • Knowledge of NHS Clinical Governance framework
  • Knowledge of principles of resource and budgetary management

Teaching, Skills & Research

  • Proven ability to teach in clinical settings
  • Ability to lead within a team and take on leadership where needed
  • Experience teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and supervise staff
