We have a vacancy for a Locum Specialty Doctor in the Adult Community Mental Health Service at Cygnet House, Ware, Hertfordshire. The role involves providing clinical leadership, diagnostic assessment, and treatment to service users with severe, complex, and high-risk psychiatric conditions.

The ACMHS (Adult Community Mental Health Services) team includes medical, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, support workers, and administrative staff, all reporting to a single management structure. The team also includes specialist staff such as psychological therapists, arts therapists, and vocational support staff.

Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience within psychiatry. If you do not meet this criterion, you may still be considered for an alternative posting of different grade and pay through an interview process.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will provide medical expertise and support to the multidisciplinary team under the supervision of consultant psychiatrists, including diagnostic assessments and treatment for patients with severe, complex, and high-risk psychiatric conditions.
  • The post holder will undertake administrative duties related to patient care and ensure clinical activity is recorded accurately and promptly.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Contribute to setting and monitoring clinical standards within teams, ensuring care is evidence-based and high quality.
  • Engage in supervision and participate in annual appraisals.
  • Participate in the Trust's academic programmes, including lectures and seminars.
  • Maintain professional registration with the GMC, comply with the Mental Health Act Section 12(2), and adhere to professional codes of conduct.
  • Participate in annual job plan reviews with the clinical manager, considering service changes.
  • Follow Trust policies and support financial planning and management of services.

Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent qualification
  • Section 12 approval or eligibility
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Diploma in Psychiatry
Eligibility
  • GMC registration with a license to practice at the time of appointment
  • Minimum 4 years postgraduate training, including at least 2 years in psychiatry training or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in Community settings in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Good standing with the GMC regarding warnings or conditions
  • Approved clinician approval

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working collaboratively with social care and other agencies
  • Experience with patients with complex needs in adult psychiatry
