Job summary

Oldham Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager within Safeguarding to lead frontline children’s social work teams in Oldham. The role offers an hourly rate of £46 and an ongoing locum contract, with the chance to influence outcomes for children and families.

You will oversee social workers, drive robust risk management, and lead complex safeguarding decisions, while supporting professional growth and multi-agency collaboration.

Qualifications

• A degree or equivalent in social work
• Current registration with Social Work England
• Significant experience in Children’s Services
• Experience in managerial roles such as Team Manager

Responsibilities

• Provide strong leadership and management to social workers, advanced practitioners, and support staff
• Ensure robust management oversight and effective risk management processes are in place
• Lead complex safeguarding decisions and statutory interventions with clarity and confidence
• Drive high-quality assessments, plans, and interventions that enhance outcomes for children and families
• Chair strategy discussions and professional meetings, ensuring collaborative decision-making
• Oversee Child Protection, Child in Need, and Children Looked After processes
• Support social workers through reflective supervision, promoting their professional growth
• Foster excellent partnership working across multi-agency networks
• Monitor team performance and ensure compliance with quality assurance and regulatory standards
• Contribute to service development initiatives and continuous improvement programs
