Job summary

Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to join the East Locality Family Help & Protection Team. Lead a dedicated team delivering safeguarding, family help, and child protection services to children, young people, and families. Hybrid working with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

You will oversee Family Help and Child Protection, ensure statutory responsibilities, and provide leadership with professional supervision. £41.42 per hour Umbrella, 37 Hours Per Week, Full Time.

Qualifications

• Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
• Extensive experience in Children’s Social Care and safeguarding.
• Previous management experience in Family Help, Assessment, Safeguarding or Child Protection.
• Strong knowledge of legislation and safeguarding frameworks.
• Experience with performance management and staff development.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and develop Social Workers and Practitioners.
• Oversee assessments, care planning, reviews and interventions.
• Manage Family Help and Child Protection Plans; contribute to pre-proceedings and court work.

About the Role

Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to join the East Locality Family Help & Protection Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an established manager to lead a dedicated team delivering effective safeguarding, family help, and child protection services to children, young people, and families.

Working within Children's Social Care, you will be responsible for leading and managing a team of social work professionals, ensuring high-quality practice, strong performance, and positive outcomes for children. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, typically consisting of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.

As Team Manager, you will provide leadership, direction, and professional supervision to a team of practitioners, ensuring vulnerable children and families receive timely and effective support and protection.

You will oversee service delivery across Family Help and Child Protection, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met, risks are effectively managed, and children achieve the best possible outcomes.

£41.42 per hour Umbrella

37 Hours Per Week

Location: Silver Court, Brownhills

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, support, and develop Social Workers, Senior Practitioners, ASYEs, and Trainee Social Workers.
• Oversee assessments, care planning, reviews, and interventions, ensuring statutory timescales and performance standards are achieved.
• Manage and oversee Family Help Plans and Child Protection Plans, including involvement in pre-proceedings and court proceedings where required.
• Provide safeguarding oversight and make complex decisions relating to children and families.
• Monitor team performance through supervision, quality assurance activity, audits, and performance management processes.
• Promote high-quality, child-centred practice and continuous improvement across the team.
• Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver effective multi-agency safeguarding and support.
• Manage resources and delegated budgets effectively, ensuring value for money and positive service outcomes.
• Support recruitment, induction, training, and professional development of staff.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, policies, procedures, and safeguarding standards.

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
• Significant experience within Children’s Social Care and safeguarding services.
• Previous management or supervisory experience within a Family Help, Assessment, Safeguarding, or Child Protection setting.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding frameworks.
• Experience of performance management, quality assurance, and workforce development.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. A DBS may be eligible for this role, applicants are required to declare any cautions and convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.
