Job summary

The NHS Trust in Wigan is seeking a Senior House Officer (SHO) to support the assessment and management of orthopaedic and surgical inpatients. You will participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings and contribute to handling new admissions and emergencies.

You will be involved in pre- and post-operative care, ensuring accurate documentation and collaborating with nurses, AHPs and specialty teams to optimise patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• GMC registration with licence to practise required.
• Experience in Orthopaedics, Trauma & Orthopaedics or related surgical specialty.
• Mandatory ALS certification.
• Ability to start ASAP.
• Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills.
• Basic procedural skills relevant to SHO level.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing new admissions and emergency referrals


• Pre-operative and post-operative patient management


• Assisting senior clinicians with patient care and treatment plans


• Maintaining accurate clinical documentation


• Liaising with nursing staff, Allied Health Professionals, and specialty teams


• Supporting patient discharge planning
  Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise


• Previous NHS experience in Orthopaedics, Trauma & Orthopaedics, General Surgery, or related surgical specialties


• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification (mandatory)


• Valid Right to Work in the UK


• Ability to start ASAP


• Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills


• Experience managing acute surgical patients and ward-based care, Acute patient assessment
