Job summary

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a locum 12-month consultant radiologist to support lung cancer screening and general imaging reporting. The role includes on-call duties, cross-sectional imaging, and MDT activity across Shropshire sites, with flexible working options.

The post requires GMC registration and FRCR or equivalent, with extensive experience in chest imaging and biopsy, and a commitment to CPD and teaching.

Qualifications

• MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
• FRCR or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Excellent experience in chest imaging.
• Chest biopsy experience.
• Experience in cancer imaging.
• Active MDT participation.
• Knowledge of cross-sectional imaging.
• Broad radiology skills across CT, ultrasound, plain films and MRI.
• Expert clinical opinion across a broad range of radiological challenges.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work.
• Take full and independent responsibility for patient care, including on-call duties.
• Commitment to CPD, including evaluating practice and audit.

Responsibilities

• Share the general imaging workload and support tumour-specific and sub-specialty reporting on PACS.
• Participate in one cancer MDT, with a second interest possibly accommodated.
• Carry out lung biopsy work.
• Report general radiographic examinations across the main sites and community hospitals in Shropshire and the CDC.
• Maintain a general radiology practice alongside sub-specialty areas as departmental needs require.
• Cover non-resident on-call and resident evening and weekend working, with occasional on-site attendance.
• Maintain general skills in in- and outpatient cross-sectional imaging, plain films and body ultrasound for acute hospital evening and weekend work.
• Address GP and clinician queries and carry out vetting.
• Contribute to the organisation and administration of the radiology department.
• Teach other clinical staff, including regular clinico-radiological meetings with consultants.
• Train junior radiology staff.
