Job summary

Pulse is sourcing a Speech and Language Therapist to join Child Development Centres across Shropshire and Telford on a locum basis. The role is banded 6/7 with 6 months duration, offering part-time or full-time hours and an hourly rate of £27.50–£32.00.

The successful SALT will assess and diagnose children with suspected ASD, work in a multidisciplinary team, and support families throughout the care journey, across two centres in Shrewsbury and Telford.

Qualifications

• Recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the RCSLT.
• Experience with children/young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or complex communication needs.
• Experience within a paediatric or Child Development Centre setting is desirable.
• Understanding of autism assessment and diagnostic pathways.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong clinical assessment and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input within Child Development Centres.
• Contribute to the assessment and diagnostic pathway for children and young people with suspected ASD.
• Assess children’s speech, language, communication and social communication needs.
• Provide specialist clinical observations and assessments to support multidisciplinary diagnostic decision-making.
• Work collaboratively with paediatricians, psychologists, nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary assessments and case discussions.
• Provide clear clinical documentation and reports in line with professional standards.
• Communicate assessment findings and recommendations appropriately to families and other professionals.
• Support the development of appropriate recommendations and onward referrals where required.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
• Provide a child-centred and family-focused approach throughout the assessment process.
