Job summary

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) has an exciting opportunity within the Children's Hospital Unit to appoint a Locum Paediatric Consultant (5PAs).

The postholder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of paediatrics and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to paediatric medicine

The post includes 8 full attending weeks per year with daily ward round for the paediatric inpatients in CHDU and Coxen ward. Attending weeks run Wednesday to Wednesday and there is an MDT handover meeting on Wednesday. Attending weeks can be split in accordance with the needs of the individual and service.

You must be fully registered with the GMC/GDC and hold a full License to Practise and be on the specialist register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of paediatrics and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to paediatric medicine.

The post includes 8 full attending weeks per year with daily ward round for the paediatric inpatients in CHDU and Coxen ward. Attending weeks run Wednesday to Wednesday and there is an MDT handover meeting on Wednesday.

The consultant is expected to provide further on site paediatric input until 5 pm (weekdays) and 1pm (weekends). Ward cover is provided by the attending consultant paediatrician off site from 5pm to 8am (weekdays) and off site from 1pm-9am (on weekends).

The post holder will be expected to take a lead role in the care of postoperative patients on the children's ward.

There is specific time allocated within this role for supporting the pre-assessment of children with complex neuromuscular conditions for spinal deformity correction.

The post holder will be expected to take an active and engaged role in departmental and academic responsibilities as allocated by agreement across the department, including cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences as appropriate.
