Our clinics are based in Belfast, Newry, and soon in Letterkenny. While we have a clinic in Derry, we are not currently seeking locum cover for this location. We’re looking for locum optometrists who are flexible and open to travelling between our other sites as needed.

Comprehensive eye examinations will be carried out using state-of-the-art technology, working alongside experienced Ophthalmologists and Optometrists, as well as a passionate and dynamic team committed to changing lives.

Optilase offers patients a variety of refractive vision correction options, including laser eye surgery (LASIK & PRK) and intraocular lens surgery (RLE, PIOL & Cataract).

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Identify patients’ refractive errors and early signs of eye disease or other health conditions.
2. Analyze corneal health, lifestyle, prescriptions, eye pressures, binocular vision, and perform anterior and retinal assessments.
3. Capture anterior eye diagnostic images using OCT, Oculus Pentacam, slit lamp, iDesign, Humphreys visual fields, IOL master.
4. Administer eye drops, including dilation drops, as needed.
5. Insert and remove contact lenses for patients.
6. Identify suitable candidates for surgery, clearly explaining procedures and risks.
7. Maintain accurate patient records following company guidelines.
8. Update patient information and outcomes in spreadsheets.
9. Participate in quality improvement, risk mitigation, and patient safety initiatives, proactively suggesting improvements.
10. Perform any additional tasks as required by the company.
11. Follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Education, Training and/or Experience:

1. Degree in Optometry with experience in a busy practice.
2. Refractive training will be provided.
3. Registration with relevant professional bodies: CORU in Ireland and GOC in Northern Ireland.
