A major healthcare provider in Nottingham is seeking a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Glaucoma for a 6-month contract. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive ophthalmology services and participating in teaching and research activities. This role necessitates flexibility in working hours, including potential weekend work, to enhance the emergency and elective ophthalmic services provided. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ophthalmology and a commitment to improving patient care.
Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Glaucoma for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to complement the current Glaucoma service provision. This is a 6‑month fixed term contract. The successful candidate would contribute to acute ophthalmology, general ophthalmology and would have on‑call commitments. The Trust is expanding consultant led evening and weekend work, which will be mutually agreed as part of the job plan with the number of programmed activities (PAs) adjusted accordingly.
The department has a heavy teaching and training commitment towards medical students, specialist trainees, nurses and visiting doctors. The appointee will be expected to participate in educational activities from time to time.

Final activity numbers will be agreed at the formal job planning session. Clinics will be a mix of face‑to‑face and virtual reviews. Flexibility within clinics and theatre sessions may be required; if weekend work is required, time off in lieu will be provided. Opportunity to undertake additional Programme Activities after settlement, to be discussed at yearly job planning meetings.

Out-patient clinic rules provide a baseline of 4 new and 8 follow-up cases for a 1 PA list, with additional follow-ups for junior colleagues. Final numbers are subject to the first formal job planning session. Clinics may be run as a mix of in-person and virtual reviews. If weekend work is required, time off in lieu will be provided. Newly appointed consultants are encouraged to undertake additional Programme Activities once settled, to be reviewed annually at job planning.
