Job summary

DrPA Secure in Frome is seeking a dedicated General Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team within a secure prison environment. You will provide high-quality primary care to a diverse patient population, improving health outcomes and continuity of care in a challenging setting.

The role requires full GMC registration, performers list, and substantial experience in primary care, with strong safeguarding and communication skills. Prior prison healthcare experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Holders of the Performers List registration.
• Experience in primary care with sound clinical decision-making.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and healthcare delivery in secure environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide full GP services including consultations, clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
• Manage chronic diseases, acute presentations, and mental health conditions.
• Contribute to management of substance misuse and detox pathways.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, mental health professionals, pharmacists, and external providers.
• Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes.
• Maintain comprehensive clinical records using the prison health record system.
• Engage in clinical governance activities and quality improvement.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Practitioner (GP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team within a secure prison environment. The role involves delivering high-quality primary care services to a diverse patient population. As a GP in a prison setting, you will play a vital role in improving health outcomes for individuals who may have complex health and social care needs. Your work will help reduce health inequalities and ensure continuity of care in a challenging but rewarding environment.

Requirements Essential

• Fully qualified GP with current GMC registration and licence to practise.

• Experience in primary care, with sound clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and healthcare delivery in secure environments.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable

• Experience working in prison healthcare, secure units, or with vulnerable populations.
• Additional qualifications in substance misuse, mental health, or sexual health.
• Knowledge of relevant NHS and prison healthcare policies and procedures.
