Job description

Overview

We are seeking a well-motivated and innovative Consultant Urologist to assist in the delivery of high-quality evidence-based Urology clinical services while implementing innovative working practices in a high-performing multidisciplinary team. You will join a team of Consultants and Specialist Doctors, sharing responsibility for patient care and supporting clinical governance through audit to improve treatment quality and minimise clinical risk. Research is valued, with established connections to Cambridge for rapid cancer diagnostics. The Trust is committed to developing careers and will support subspecialty development within the department. A secretary and clerical staff will be provided to support daily clinical and administrative duties.

You must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register, or within six months of admission if in a Training Programme within the UK. You must be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of achieving CCST.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver Urology clinical services and subspeciality activities with colleagues.
• Promote the development of multidisciplinary teams and shared responsibility for patient care.
• Support clinical governance by using audit findings to improve treatment quality and minimise clinical risk.
• Develop innovative working practices and support the growing contribution of non-medical staff.
• Supervise and manage junior medical staff.
• Assist in teaching and training programmes for junior medical staff and postgraduate medical education.
• Work effectively within a team and communicate with patients, General Practitioners, and hospital colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full GMC registration
• CCT or CESR (CP), or within six months of attaining this
• FRCS(Urol) or equivalent
• Evidence of thorough and broad training in Urological Surgery
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Essential Skills and Attributes

• Commitment to continuing Medical Education
• Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at departmental, local, regional or national levels
• Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
• Ability to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
• Interest in research and service development; experience with clinical audits

Desirable

• Evidence of completed and published research and audit
• Experience of supervising junior doctors and specialist registrars; ability to teach clinical skills across postgraduate levels
