Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a specialist forensic service for children and young people. Alongside other team members, the post holder will contribute to the provision of a highly specialist advice, consultation, assessment and intervention service for young people presenting with risk to others and complex needs by: providing brief advice and multiagency consultation; facilitating consultation surgeries within local multiagency services; supporting case management and individual care planning; developing and delivering training to multi-agency services; and offering assessment and interventions. This post is to provide consultant leadership for the regionally commissioned community Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS) covering the 12 boroughs within the South London Partnership (SLP). The FCAMHS team and, therefore, this post will be managed by SLAM and the postholder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician for National and Specialist CAMHS (ultimately to the SLAM Medical Director).

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide joint clinical service leadership alongside the consultant clinical psychologist/service lead. They will lead on team consultations and assessments. Interventions are multidisciplinary with consultant psychiatry involvement when indicated. The postholder will work with borough CAMHS services across South London (12 boroughs) and a number of agencies including children’s services, youth offending teams (YOTs), secure settings/YOI, courts, schools/education.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will be involved with development of the FCAMHS service and liaison with FCAMHS development at a national level, including via an established psychiatry network.
Other aspects of this role include linking with inpatient services, teaching and training and informing policy development.
Operationally the team sits within National and Specialist CAMHS outpatient services in SLAM.

Qualifications

• MRC Psych or equivalent ( A )
• CCT (or within 6 months of accreditation) ( A )
• Full GMC Registration & inclusion on Specialist GMC Register ( A )
• Sec 12 (2) and Approved Clinician status (or undertaking to obtain this on taking up the post) (A/I)
• Higher degree or additional qualifications (e.g, MSc, PhD on a related topic/ neuroscience, Psychotherapy diploma, Teaching Proficiency)

Training and Experience

• Completion of Higher Psychiatric Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or being within 6 months of achieving CCT accreditation Or Equivalent training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CESR issued by PMETB) (A/I)
• Training and experience in forensic psychiatry (A/I)
• Experience of working with young people in mental health community settings
• Experience of effective multidisciplinary team working
• Experience of effective multi-agency partnership.
• Ability to undertake full range of consultant responsibilities.
• Approved training and experience in relevant therapeutic practice (e.g. psychoeducation, parenting groups, CBT or Family Therapy) A/I
• Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists Guidelines) (A/I)
• CCT in Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview (A/I)
• Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry A/I AND/OR previous consultant experience. Sub-speciality or other specialist clinical training relevant to post.
• Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group.
