This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a specialist forensic service for children and young people. Alongside other team members, the post holder will contribute to the provision of a highly specialist advice, consultation, assessment and intervention service for young people presenting with risk to others and complex needs by: providing brief advice and multiagency consultation; facilitating consultation surgeries within local multiagency services; supporting case management and individual care planning; developing and delivering training to multi-agency services; and offering assessment and interventions. This post is to provide consultant leadership for the regionally commissioned community Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS) covering the 12 boroughs within the South London Partnership (SLP). The FCAMHS team and, therefore, this post will be managed by SLAM and the postholder will be accountable to the Lead Clinician for National and Specialist CAMHS (ultimately to the SLAM Medical Director).
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide joint clinical service leadership alongside the consultant clinical psychologist/service lead. They will lead on team consultations and assessments. Interventions are multidisciplinary with consultant psychiatry involvement when indicated. The postholder will work with borough CAMHS services across South London (12 boroughs) and a number of agencies including children’s services, youth offending teams (YOTs), secure settings/YOI, courts, schools/education.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will be involved with development of the FCAMHS service and liaison with FCAMHS development at a national level, including via an established psychiatry network.
Other aspects of this role include linking with inpatient services, teaching and training and informing policy development.
Operationally the team sits within National and Specialist CAMHS outpatient services in SLAM.
Maudsley Hospital (headquarters)
Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2) and is within walking distance from the beautiful green spaces of Ruskin Park and the vibrant high-street that offers great shopping opportunities and with a wide range of restaurants. You will be based at the Michael Rutter Centre, on the Maudsley Hospital site but you will be expected to travel to other sites across the South London Partnership

The post-holder will be responsible for providing specialist child and adolescent forensic mental health expertise in advising, providing formal consultation, assessment and intervention. They will be actively involved with many agencies, families and carers. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop leadership skills.
