Job description

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic doctor to join our service to cover a maternity leave for 12 months.

The post holder will be responsible for approximately 10 patients, mainly on a forensic rehabilitation ward.

Most patients are admitted from within the service in a planned manner, so they are known to us.

The post holder will work with a multidisciplinary team, including a resident doctor, and will provide leadership within the team.

Candidates must have full GMC registration and significant experience in forensic psychiatry (preferred) or general adult psychiatry.

Please note that Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust is not currently a sponsor under the GMC Sponsorship Scheme. Therefore, we cannot consider applications from individuals requiring GMC sponsorship.

Main duties include:
  1. Providing input into care, treatment, and risk management for patients.
  2. Developing treatment plans and promoting rehabilitation and recovery.
  3. Conducting ongoing assessments, diagnoses, and treatment of mental and physical health needs.
  4. Managing risk assessments and ensuring safety.
  5. Care pathway planning and liaising with agencies, including local authorities, independent services, patients, and carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications
  • Essential: MB BS or equivalent
  • Desirable: Higher degrees (MD, PhD, MSc), MRCPsych or equivalent
Eligibility
  • Essential: GMC registration and license to practice, inclusion on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT, approved clinician status or achievable within 3 months, S12 approval or achievable within 3 months
Experience
  • Assessing and treating inpatient adults, multidisciplinary team involvement, CPD participation
  • Desirable: Forensic psychiatry experience
