Locum Consultant Plastic and Breast Surgeon

Full-time Locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon with joint responsibilities in Plastic Surgery and Breast Services Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is a new locum post is for 12 months with a scope of getting converted and re-advertised as a substantive post in the future. The post holder will be able to support provision of clinical services in Breast reconstruction, Breast microsurgery, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and Orthoplastic Surgery. Breast related Plastics and Breast services are based at City Hospital Campus and the Orthoplastic Service is based at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, with some oncoplastic programmed activities for an affiliated trust, Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust (SFH) as part of Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Main duties of the job

A full range of Plastics & Breast emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care, shared with other colleagues as clinically indicated.

Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department.

These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her consultant colleagues, and the Trust.

The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.

  • Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Breast Microsurgery
  • Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery
  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
  • Fellowship level experience or equivalent in Orthoplastic reconstruction. Specific training in communication skills Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
Management Skills
  • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Higher management degree or qualification or training Experience of change management
Personal Skills/Qualities
  • Able to work flexibly in a changing health service Able to use the Trust's IT support systems
