Role: Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology (Oculoplastics)
Rates: £100 - £125 per hour (PAYE)
Shifts: 09:00am - 17:00pm, Monday to Friday + 1:5 On Calls

Details: One job requires oculoplastics specialisation - clinics, theatres, cancer work, YAG laser Urgent Eye cover as required and second on call The rota is basically 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, except when on call. Please note we are a 5 site Trust in East Kent so travel will be required. Non-resident on-call: 14/4/25 09:00 to 21/4/2025 09:00 Urgent Eye, Outpatient Clinics, Theatre Lists

In your role as an Ophthalmology Doctor at East Kent Hospitals Uni. NHS Foundation Trust, you will rely on your superior surgical skills, dexterity, and coordination to treat a diverse range of disorders, improving or in some cases fully restoring a patient's sight. Your extensive knowledge will help you explore all the treatment possibilities and enjoy a gratifying career.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

As an Ophthalmology Doctor with East Kent Hospitals Uni. NHS Foundation Trustyou will:

  • Provide routine care, diagnosing and treating eye diseases and injuries as well as performing corrective surgeries.
  • Manage emergency and specialist eye treatment clinics.
  • Liaise with medical and non-medical staff to ensure quality treatment.
  • Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain findings using a variety of methods to ensure practical understanding.
  • Communicate with patients on shared patient decision making
  • Work in and where appropriate, lead a multidisciplinary team
  • Assess and prioritise patient/client requirements, delegating effectively to others.
  • Recognise, review, and report a patient's condition and any changes to the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Performing basic administrative and clerical tasks.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications

  • Be a GMC registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
  • Have relevant experience at Consultant level, or references to support your transition up to Consultant level.
  • Hold evidence of stand-alone Right to Work in the UK (unfortunately locum jobs aren't able to offer visa sponsorship)
  • You will need to pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
