Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology



There is an exciting opportunity and applications are invited for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist post based at Newham University Hospital

This is a fixed term locum position for a maximum of ten programmed activities [10 PAs] for a duration of one year.

This appointment requires a wide experience in General Obstetrics, Labour Ward Management training and Gynaecology. Experience in colposcopy is desirable. In any case, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop other special interests based on service requirements.You will also have a role in coordinating educational programmes within Women’s and Children’s Health.

Candidates should be on the specialist register or are within six months of attaining CCST or equivalent in Obstetrics. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and team working abilities are essential.

The duties outlined below cover the main duties of the post and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The aim is to providea high quality, accessible consultant-led services;

- To be integral to providing gynaecology services and acute obstetrics services.

- To take an active role in developing clinical governance initiatives, participate in multidisciplinary audit, clinical effectiveness initiatives and risk management.

- To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients’ Charter and the local purchasers’ contracts.

- To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.

- To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties, working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff.

- To provide leadership in teaching and clinical research.

- To be up to date in statutory and mandatory training programs.

- To maintain ‘Good Medical Practice’ and be in ‘good standing’ with the RCOG.

It is expected that the post-holder will work closely with colleagues from other specialties within the hospital and in primary care.
