The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Locum Obstetric Consultant to join 27 other Obstetric and Gynaecology Consultants in our busy secondary care Trust.

Main duties of the job:

  • Antenatal clinics
  • Caesarean section lists
  • Resident Labour Ward Days and Nights with a Tier 2 & Tier 1 doctor
  • Flexible sessions depending on skills and abilities
  • Developing enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients
  • Working well in a multi-professional team
  • Delivering clinical and quality targets with clinical teams and commissioners
  • Following patients throughout their clinical pathways

Job responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed within 3 months of starting, based on a 10 PA working week, including clinical work, teaching, research, and managerial responsibilities. The plan will be reviewed annually and includes commitments both internal and external, with personal objectives linked to service improvements and strategic priorities.

For full-time, the weekly allocation is approximately 8.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs). The allocation may be reviewed and adjusted based on service demands.

Person Specification

  • Essential qualifications: MBBS or equivalent, MRCOG or equivalent, Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM (or equivalent experience)
  • Desirable: Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR
  • Essential entry criteria: Evidence of achievement of GMC standards in Good Medical Practice, ability to perform all obstetric skills required for labour ward management, including complex C/Sections, instrumental delivery, 3/4th degree repairs, MROP, CTG interpretation
