The Trust is looking to recruit a 6-month fixed term Locum Consultant Neurologist to be based at the University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) site to ensure that patients have access to high quality Neurology services locally in a timely manner.

Applicants must be included on the GMC Specialist Register for Neurology or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the date of interview. The successful applicant will provide a comprehensive high-quality Neurology service.

Main duties of the job

This is a 6 PA Locum post based at University Hospital Lewisham. The job consists of:

  • 2 weekly Neurology OPD clinics
  • 2 weekly inpatient ward rounds

    Clinical Responsibilities

    1. A part-time post-holder will be expected to undertake 2 neurology clinics each week (4 hours each), and to see predominantly new patients with some follow-up capacity built in. We would encourage colleagues to develop specialty clinics, provided that they are of clinical relevance to the service and local needs.

    2. There is a commitment to adequate levels of secretarial cover on each site. Consultants are provided with sufficient office space and IT support.

    3. We provide five-day ward consultation services on both sites. Consultants participate in a rota to see ward referrals at UHL and QEH hospitals. We endeavour to see all referrals within 24 hours of referral. The workload varies but a reasonable expectation would be to see an average of 4-6 ward patients per session.

    4. There is currently no on-call commitment.

    Candidates are expected to contribute to departmental educational meetings and clinical supervision of doctors in training
