Role: Locum Consultant Neurologist - 1 year contract

Shifts: Monday-Friday 0900-1700. Full time or part time considered. Job plan negotiable.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Participate in the Neurology service with responsibility for new and review consultations in outpatient clinics and consultations within hospitals in Tayside. Provide neurological care with responsibility for a caseload of in-patients and outpatients
  • Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of the department
  • Provide sub-specialist care in collaboration with other consultant neurologists
  • Supervise and train of the junior medical staff attached to the unit
  • Participate in under-graduate medical student teaching
  • Work flexibly with other members of the multi professional teams
  • Be flexible in any future discussions re allocation of duties

As a Consultant Neurologist, you are in the position to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological conditions and your skills, knowledge and experience are critical to the ongoing provision of neurological services and departmental development throughout the hospital.

Working as a locum with this NHS trust you will be playing a significant role in meeting the needs of this specialised field of medicine while also enjoying the vast opportunities to contribute through the coaching, mentorship and education of junior doctors and trainees.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

As a locum Neurology Consultant with this trustyou will:

  • Provide leadership to the Neurosciences team in collaboration with Consultant colleagues.
  • Further develop a flexible and responsive service to deliver high quality care for patients.
  • Provide leadership and engage with the clinical governance agenda.
  • Ensure close collaboration with all relevant professionals and organisations in providing a comprehensive and seamless Neurology service across organisational boundaries.
  • Be required to develop, maintain and manage effective relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally, across all disciplines and including service users, carers and the media.
  • Facilitate innovation, evaluation, audit and research within the field of neurology.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications

  • Be a GMC registered Doctor (you do NOT need to be on the Specialist Register).
  • Have relevant experience at Consultant level, or references to support your transition up to Consultant level.
  • Hold evidence of stand-alone Right to Work in the UK (unfortunately locum jobs aren't able to offer visa sponsorship).
  • You will need to pass an enhanced background check (DBS).
