This appointment is for a full-time locum consultant respiratory physician who will be primarily working within the severe asthma and upper airways service based at Royal Brompton Hospital. This tertiary service is one of the largest in the UK with an International reputation for excellence and takes referrals from a network of hospitals across the surrounding regions. The appointee will join two RBH based full-time severe asthma physicians as well as an experienced multidisciplinary team of specialist nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and speech and language therapists to provide specialist care to a large cohort of patients with difficult and severe asthma including over 1000 on biologic therapies.
Provide High Quality Care to Patients o The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC full and specialist registration and hold a current licence to practise o To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. Performance Management o To work with medical, nursing, laboratory and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas: o Clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing cancelled operations and DNA rates. Medical Staff Management o To work with colleagues to ensure junior doctors' hours are compliant in line with EWTD and New Deal. o To ensure that adequate systems and procedures are in place to control and monitor leave for junior medical staff and to ensure that there is appropriate cover within the clinical areas, including on-call commitments Governance o To review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director. o Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas. Strategy and Business Planning o To participate in the business planning and objective setting process for the directorate and Trust where appropriate. o To represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks/other external clinical meetings, as delegated by the Clinical Director.
