A leading healthcare provider in Leeds is seeking a Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join the dynamic multi-disciplinary team at St James University Hospital. The role involves managing patient care in Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, and PCD while supervising junior staff. LocumConsultant in Respiratory Medicine with sub-speciality expertise in CysticFibrosis, Bronchiectasis.Thispost will be available for a period of 6 months.Weare seeking a dynamic Locum Respiratory Consultant to join the Leeds CysticFibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD Specialist services at St James UniversityHospital. The appointees will become a key member of a dedicated and highlyexperienced multi-disciplinary team. This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis &PCD Team with supervision of the junior doctors and specialist nurses. Therewill be an on-call commitment to cover the Cystic Fibrosis rota on a 1:4basis.
Thedepartment of Respiratory Medicine has undergone significant modernisationover recent years and remains a centre for clinical and educationalexcellence. Inpatient services are provided in Gledhow Wing at St JamessHospital. This includes three Respiratory wards, an NIV / Weaning unit, adedicated CF ward, a procedures room, Sleep services and a Nurse-led dayunit.
Thepost will be based at St Jamess Hospital with outpatient responsibilities atSeacroft Hospital. The unit has a strong commitment to both undergraduate andpostgraduate teaching and research.
Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation in Respiratory Medicine in theRoyal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the SpecialistRegister or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees ifcurrently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which havebeen authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicantsshould have established skills in Respiratory Medicine and its relatedspecialties including Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD. A strongcommitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interestis desirable.
Excellentcommunication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching andservice development are essential.

15 whole time equivalentconsultant respiratory physicians provide a cross-city inpatient andoutpatient service. Currentsub-specialty interests among the physicians include lung cancer, pleuraldisease, interstitial lung disease, difficult asthma, tuberculosis, sleepdisordered breathing & non-invasive ventilation, cystic fibrosis,bronchiectasis, PCD, COPD and alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency.
CysticFibrosis, Bronchiectasis & PCD Service
TheLeeds Adult CF Unit cover a large geographical area across all of the West,North and East Yorkshire out to the North Sea coast. Our aim is to provide accessible excellent,specialist care to enable adults and young people with CF to maintain thebest possible health and participate as fully as possible in normalactivities and aspirations, including school, university, college, sports andwork.
In2007 Leeds became the first CF unit to successfully implement full electronicpatient records, which has significantly improved quality of care. The teamcompromises of 3 Consultants, Associate Specialist, Research & ClinicalFellows, Specialist Nurses, Specialist Physiotherapists, Specialistdieticians, Specialist Pharmacists, Social Work & Psychology.
TheLeeds Bronchiectasis service was set up in 1998 and provides secondary andtertiary care for people with bronchiectasis living in Leeds and westYorkshire region.
TheAdult CF & Bronchiectasis Unit has experienced & established home IVService supported by a team of four full-time experienced CFNS and afull-time support worker. The Leeds Unit has a well-established clinicalresearch programme and is an accredited site for the European Cystic FibrosisClinical Trial Network and the CF Trust Accelerator Platform.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
Thesuccessful candidate would join the other 3 consultants in the team. They areexpected to work closely with the current multidisciplinary team to sustaincurrent capacity of CF, Bronchiectasis & PCD services with a view toexpand in the near future, ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment& follow up, including developing innovative ways of working to sustainincreasing patient load, contribute to the Respiratory & CF on call rota.

Support development of PCD Service
Work closely with multidisciplinaryteam & developing innovative ways of working to sustain increasingpatient load

Active participation in researchwithin the department.
