Job description

Kingston Hospital NHS Trust is a busy, thriving District General Hospital with approximately 600 beds supporting over 320,000 people in the surrounding area including the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney and East Elmbridge. Kingston Hospital also operates peripheral outpatient clinics across other hospitals and works closely with local general practitioner surgeries and health centres. Kingston Hospital has a well regarded maternity service, and 5,995 babies were born in our maternity unit in 2011/12. 104,452 people attended our A&E in 2011/12. Kingston has acquired Foundation Trust status since July 2013. Our Sir William Rous cancer unit was opened in 2008. The unit is a working partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The Unit was launched by Kingston Hospital in May 2001. Through the generosity and support of the local community, the Kingston Can appeal raised £3 million for the Unit. The fundraising was supported by a donation of £1.4 million from The Royal Marsden Trustees and £630,000 from Macmillan Cancer Support in 2006. A £22 million development, the Kingston Surgical Centre, was opened in 2007, including surgical wards and an education and training centre. The hospital also seeks to work closely with other partners including Kingston University and the Royal Borough of Kingston as well as local authorities in Wandsworth, Elmbridge, Sutton and Merton, Richmond and Twickenham.

Main duties of the job

  • Work alongside Consultants and the rest of the multidisciplinary team in the development and provision of a strengthened and modernised respiratory service.
  • Take part in Clinical research, with approval for the Local Research Ethics Committee.
  • Participate in the Clinical Governance activities of the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Diagnostic Services Clinical Management Group including Clinical Audit and Clinical risk Management.
  • Take part in Multidisciplinary team meetings as needed.
  • Work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of the service and share with consultant colleagues in the clinical contribution to management.
  • Support delivery of respiratory outpatient services and enabling catch up of activity lost due to pandemic.
  • There is a GIM weekend on call Rota on 1 in 13 weekend basis. This will either involve the postholder to be present in the hospital on Friday from 17:00-21:30 on call from home till 8:00 on Saturday morning, in hospital Saturday 8:30-17:00 and in hospital Sunday 8:00-21:30 with on call from home till 8:00 on Monday morning. Or in hospital Saturday 8:00-21:30 on call from home till 8:00 on Sunday and in hospital 8:30-17:00 on Sunday. There will be two consultants on call on weekends supporting new admissions and patients on AAU.
