Job description

A new opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, dedicated team and applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Renal Medicine and General Medicine. This post will be based primarily at The Carlisle Cumberland Infirmary, although we also support West Cumberland Hospital so there will be a requirement to work across both sites. The post involves out-patient and in-patient duties and a regular commitment to both in-reach into the medical admissions unit and on-call for general medicine.


Main duties of the job

  1. Reviewing patients on the renal wards and renal units as well as other wards in the hospital.
  2. Undertake ward rounds.
  3. Performing outpatient clinics.
  4. Training/Supervising staff.
  5. Partaking in the on-call rota as well as the medical on-call rota.
  6. Reviewing patients in the Emergency Department/Acute Medical Unit where necessary.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS.
  • Fully registered on the UK General Medical Council.
  • Dual accreditation in Nephrology and General Medicine with the appropriate Royal College.
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
  • Full GMC Registration.

Desirable

  • Fellow of Royal College of Physicians.
  • Higher degree.
  • Educational qualifications.
  • ALS.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • High level of clinical experience and competence in Renal and General Medicine.
  • Completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in Nephrology or evidence of equivalent competency.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.

Desirable

  • A commitment to, and experience of teaching.

Management and Admin

Desirable

  • Experience of audit management.

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of, and commitment to, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates.
  • Teaching of non-medical health professionals.
