To provide consultant level expert leadership for the public health agenda across Lothian as part of a department that provides a comprehensive public health function to health improvement and health inequalities, health protection, health services and health intelligence. The post holder will develop and interpret national, regional and local policies and through partnership working across a range of disciplines in the public, third and independent sectors, will lead and direct the development of inter-agency health strategies, plans and programmes that deliver the key local, national and international public health targets for improving population health and reducing health inequalities. The post holder will also contribute key public health competencies to a range of health service plans, policies and strategies.

Specifically, the post holder will provide Consultant level expert leadership for Healthcare Public Health. The post holder will work collaboratively with partners in the health and care system to maximise the population benefits of healthcare. This may include translating the evidence-based to inform designing and planning services, consideration of equity of access and identifying effective preventative interventions. This post is situated within the Healthcare Public Health Division and reports to the Lead Consultant for Healthcare Public Health.

You may be required to work at any of NHS Lothian’s sites. This post is suitable for hybrid working however a minimum of 2 days per week will be required in the office.
